| okay...i shall paste all the e-mails and conversations i've had with mr vinu thru e-mail and gtalk. so okay...17th of july came, and school started. i had created about 60 designs, but only a few were worthy of the portfolio. the rest are definitely going to the ugly folder. not only that, i have also decided to make a little change in my plan. instead of creating 80-100 ugly and nice designs and putting all of them into the portfolio, i have decided to create 80, and to choose 50 worthy ones for the portfolio. not only that, my portfolio would resemble a little book, in which there would be 12 of my best works, and a detailed description of the process. i'm still working on the layouts of the the designs and description, but i think i will be done by the end of the week. (more like i hope)
as for the multimedia cd, i decided to put video in it, so it would be interactive and funny at the same time. i met with mr vinu almost everyday after school started, and discussed with him a few things. he even decided to give me this program called snag it for my multimedia cd. anyway, on with the e-mails.

i have returned from bali, and well...i haven't done anything...so today, i worked my "backside" off...yes, i'm trying to be polite...
right now, it's about 12:47 AM, and i just finished my last design for the day.. i made about erm..8 designs, but i'm only putting 6 under my subsections...the firey shin was actually made from a tutorial i followed..so it's not counted as my design..and the enter sign, shintrix, was also made from a tutorial..the two of them, took about 6 hours to make..seriously...i kept making alot of mistakes, and i think i redid both of them bout 17-20 times... but i learnt alot of new stuff as well..and they turned out quite shiny.
so since i forgot to take screenshots, i will describe my process one by one...and it's already 1 am... *sighs..*

steps: quite simple really.. i just drew the sad distorted smiley face, and then typed in the words, and i'm done. i tried making it quite random by adding a lil bit of change in colour, and making the words a lil bit different. but the final product is cute!!!

steps: even more simple.. just a change of word postions, one overlapping each other.. it's a very simple icon. i typed out three short phrases in three diff type layers. then, i made them with different fonts, different colours, different sizes. after that, i moved their positions around, until they look nice. then, for the last phrase, i applied a lil bit of wind from filter.

i needed more than 5 minutes...i was confused about a few things..but i will write down the rest of my eventful journey of designing stuff tomorrow..i can't open my eyes now...gahhh!!!! *sobs* it's bout 1:30 in the morning..damn, i gotta learn how to type in sentences next time i chat...writing "shin" and "felice" repeatedly sucks the life outta me... nite ya'll...=)

and now, the continuation.....a few minutes after our session, i started interviewing her again....i'm too lazy to paste our conversation here, so yeah...forget it...the main point is that she described to me that she want the cross to be like a plus sign, and a circle..and she culdn't describe her second idea properly to me, so she's gonna send me the picture today.
so how did i make this troublesome logo? well, i don't really know either, just random clicking, cuz it was alredy very late, and i needed sleep. so first, i used the "select" tool, and i changed it to a circle marquee.. holding down "shift" and drawing a perfect circle, i made a new layer, and filled the circle with white. then, i searched for a proper font to draw the "+" sign, and then transformed it until it fit the circle perfectly. after that, i searched for the "gothic" letter f, and then i typed it. so now, the basic design is done.
obviously, if it's just like that, it would be too simple. so what i did was, i first lesterized the + sign, so i could use filter on it. i wanted a ragged effect, and so first, to put a lil bit of the cloth pattern on the sign, i used "extrude" with blocks of 30x30 pixels. (lol..i'm writing this as if i intended the effect.. the truth is, i just did some random experimenting on the filters, and thought it looked good..=)) then, to make it look torn, i used the filter "sprayed strokes". after that, when i looked at the cross, it was quite nice. so i decided to use the same techniques on the white circle. however, i couldn't get the torn effect on the circle, and so it looked quite plain. so, i decided to make horns on the circle. i used the technique i learnt while making the firey shin called "liquify". here, a warp tool is set by default, and it sort of drags the drawing you're editing. so the horns looked kinda short and cute.
i wasn't done yet. i still had to make the "F" look shiny. so i pinched my lil tired brain, and looked for blending options. since the background was already torn and stuff, why not make the "F" cracked? so, i opened the blending options for the letter, and used "bevel and emboss", "contour", and "texture". this made it look cracked, but it's still not very nice. so, i applied some inner shadow, and a lil bit of gradient overly, and VOILA!!! i'm done..=)

steps: okay. i need to create a sad but cute icon. this one's not my best, but it's cute and sad. so yeah. first, i hand drew the melting snowman with a crayon like brush to make it look childish. then, the sun.. after that, to make the sky, i just used the gradient tool to make the blue sky and the white snow. after that, i typed in the text, and rotated the canvas. this is because for the "wind" filter, there are only wind directions from left and from right. i wanted the text to be sort of icy.. so then i used wind, and direction from the right.. i then rotated back the canvas, and i'm done..

steps: this is one of my favourites i've made so far. it's very simple, but i like it. people weren't very satisfied tho. oh well. so what i did was, i used the crayon like brush, and drew a strip of grass. then, the little cute cloud, and then, the sun. the sun has a very sad face, so this makes the effect quite warm, but depressing. kinda like how i'm feeling now. so then, after that, i just wrote the text, and then, i'm done..^^ it is by far the cutest icon i've ever made..(according to me..)

steps: quite easy actually. i just made the background kinda rough, and i drew on it. a palm tree, the sea, and a few birds. i then label it "paradise". the letters all with random warm colours. since my cousin (joei) suggested to make something warmer, i made paradise..=)

right...as i was just sitting here, studying chemistry, bored out of my wits, i came up with an idea for the personal project process journal. Since i'm always so lazy to write, i was thinking like, why don't i use an online weblog to record my processes? it will be an interesting way, well sort of, to read what i'm doing every- erm...week for my personal project..so sir, what do you think? can i do that??? because it'll be faster, and funner for me, and less boring....oh well..i shall wait for you're reply..reply soon ya sir....=)

I have viewd all the images that you have created .I was not able to access xanga coz it is blocked by our firewall so i will be accessing your process journals later.Some of your images i really liked like the " freaks also need love". The depiction of chinese characters also is a good one in terrms of the techniques used.
The philosophical one " divine " is spelled incorrectly - is that purposefully done? Hope you have categorised your pictures and i really liked the animation - Down fall...

i made this neat banner (according to me) which sorta looks futuristic. i got the final result by fooling around with the bevel and emboss blending option. i will not be taking screenshots for making my banners, because they are all quite simple, and i think it'll be a waste of bandwidth. but if mr vinu, yes, you sir, think i should, then tell me. *i don't think you'll see this until the end product is done, but what the hey..=) anyway, i will describe how i made it. well not really, but here. the font i used was "future", and i typed in the text "it slowly slips away".. so yeah. then, i rightclicked with the select tool, and i selected blending options. then, i selected bevel and emboss, and under it, contour and texture. and then, i just messed around with the numbers and angles. i found out that texture actually allows some kind of pattern to be engraved in the words!!! okay, it's new news for me.. and then, i clicked satin, and changed the structure a lil bit, and TADA!!!! out came this shiny...erm.. thing.. well, that's it..

WOAH!!! i'm on a roll today!!!! made erm... 4 banners.. 2 of them looked quite nice, one was just a test, and the other one's not that good enough. so, i'll probably just put 2 of them in the final product. i shall start describing the steps in making the banners.

steps taken: for this particular banner (man, i just can't talk formally...), i first used the emboss filter, which is different from the bevel and emboss blending option, and then, i changed the settings till it looked quite nice. the idea of this option actually allows text to be written within the text. like, erm, as if texts are written on top of each other, like as if the text is hollow. and then, i used the bevel and emboss blending option, and then, changed the settings again. after that, i clicked on pattern overlay, which gives sort of a bubbly texture like thing. and then, it's done!!!

steps taken: so okay. the banner is sorta like human hair like thing, which is supposed to be shiny. the background, i mean. so then, i have discovered this filter "fiber" which allows that kind of backgrounds to be made. it's really quite effective. then, i wrote my text, and used the filter "wind" and this made it look a part of the erm, hair like background. after that, the final step was to allow the text to emit a sort of white glow. i right-clicked, then selected the blending options. after that, i clicked outer glow, changed a little bit of the settings till i like it, and i'm finished. hair like, banner. i'm soooo in love with photoshop..=) | | |
